Description

While Jews themselves comprised a tiny population in the Americas in the 17th century, word of the possible reappearance of the legendary “Lost Tribes of Israel” in the New World spread through texts published in London and the continent during the middle of the century. This tour examines early printed books in English, Latin, Dutch, Hebrew, and Native American languages to tell a story of cultural misunderstanding and religious longing in an age of exploration and expansion.

Only curiosity is required to learn about this fascinating mix of books. No experience in reading Hebrew is required, nor do you need to have attended other Early Hebrew Books tours prior to signing up for this one.
