Library Assistant Internship
Duties and responsibilities
Communicate with researchers via email
Schedule research visits
Track circulation of rare and reference materials in the Reading Room
Pull materials in advance of research visits
Reshelve materials correctly after research visits
Maintain and organize the Reading Room to facilitate researcher experience
Provide orientation, direction, and assistance to a wide variety of researchers
Assist researchers with sign-in and proper handling of rare and reference materials
Interpret and enforce the Rosenbach's policies and regulations
Other projects as assigned
Qualifications
Previous library work experience preferred
Graduate students in MLS programs preferred
Familiarity with or interest in the Rosenbach’s mission and collecting areas
Excellent judgment and awareness of security protocols and procedures
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse library users and staff in person, by telephone, and by email
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills and ability to sustain close attention to detail
Knowledge of Microsoft applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook; familiarity with a Collections Management System (e.g., PastPerfect) a plus
Commitment to providing high-quality service, working effectively with others in a team environment, and be responsive to changing needs and priorities
Ability to lift heavy books and boxes (25–30 lbs.), walking, standing, kneeling, stooping, climbing stairs, and pushing heavy carts with books or boxes
Timeline
15 hours a week, October to mid-December, 2026, and February to April, 2027. Details TBD based on successful candidate’s availability
Stipend
$5,000/total paid on a bi-weekly basis
