DIRECTOR’S WELCOME

WELCOME TO THE ROSENBACH MUSEUM & LIBRARY.

My name is Kelsey Scouten Bates, and I’m the John C. Haas Director of the Rosenbach, home to the great rare book and manuscript collection of renowned early 20th-century book dealer, A. S. W. Rosenbach. Rosenbach and his brother Philip lived in this home amongst some of the most important volumes of rare books and historic manuscripts in the world.

Here, you can engage with centuries of materials, from before the invention of Gutenberg’s printing press to the 20th century, including modern editions by your favorite authors. You can see historic treasures like Bram Stoker’s notes for Dracula, the manuscript of James Joyce’s Ulysses, the manuscript for Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, first editions by Phillis Wheatley, Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, and more. When you’re through with your tour, sign up for one of the Rosenbach’s numerous courses or engaging programs, set up a research appointment, or become a member. We welcome you back to read alongside us, to spend time with your favorite authors, and to explore the treasure trove of literature and history that is here on Delancey Place, virtually or in person.

Welcome to the Rosenbach.
