The Rosenbach's permanent exhibition galleries are refreshed regularly, so there’s always something new and exciting to see! Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at last week's gallery rotation in Treasures from the Rosenbach’s Collection: History of the Material Text and Treasures from the Rosenbach’s Collection: Literature of Great Britain and Ireland.

A significant aspect of gallery rotations is turning pages. By turning pages, we can share more of each book during its stay in the gallery and minimize the light exposure of individual pages. During this rotation five volumes received page turns, including 15th-century manuscript L'outré d'amour pour amour morte, the 1605 first edition of Don Quixote, and The new Negro: an interpretation, edited by Alain Locke.

One new addition to the galleries is the first illustrated edition of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The printed cover depicts one of my personal favorite passages in this classic Gothic novel: the moment that Jonathan Harker witnesses the Count climbing out of a castle window headfirst, in “lizard fashion.” Kick off the fall season with a visit to the Treasures galleries, or by attending our free Fall Open House on Saturday, September 28!
