Docent Program
Are you looking for a rewarding and stimulating volunteer experience? Become a docent at the Rosenbach! Inspire visitors’ curiosity and creativity as you guide them through literary and artistic masterpieces and connect with the greatest minds of modern and historic times. The Rosenbach’s volunteer docents entertain and enlighten visitors in our historic house every day. They weave stories of the Rosenbach brothers and illuminate the museum’s collections of fine arts, decorative arts, rare books, and manuscripts.
No formal background is required. We seek friendly, enthusiastic and committed applicants who enjoy working with diverse groups of people, learning through dialogue, and examining the world through its artifacts. If you are interested, please contact Farrar Fitzgerald, The Sunstein Family Assistant Director of Education, at (215) 732-1600, ext. 135 or farrarf [at] rosenbach [dot] org (subject: DocentTraining) (click here to sign up).
The Rosenbach is not planning on running a docent training in 2011. We are currently at capacity for volunteer docents.
Collections Interns
The Rosenbach offers internship opportunities for college graduates and graduate students in Museum Studies, English, History, and related fields, who are interested in learning about museums and gaining collections experience. Although most internships are during the summer, we can also frequently accomodate term-time internship requests. Internships are unpaid but the Rosenbach is willing to work with the applicant’s institution to arrange course credit.
Past intern projects have included object cataloging in the fine/decorative art collection, object research, manuscript transcription, assisting with the digitization of collections information and other departmental work as needed.
To apply, or to find out more information, please contact khaasf [at] rosenbach [dot] org (Kathy Haas, Assistant Curator. )
