Public Program
3:00PM - 5:00PM

As part of Philagrafika 2010: Out of Print, the Rosenbach worked with contemporary printmaker Enrique Chagoya, who created a print edition based upon a print in the Rosenbach’s collection by George Cruikshank. Cruikshank was a populist artist whose socially critical images were abundant in the newspapers, magazine, books and broadsides of this time. Join us for a series of lectures and programs at the Rosenbach exploring the work of Enrique Chagoya and George Cruikshank and discover the ways in which the two printmakers employ satire to address important social issues.

For three days, we will be transforming a room at the Museum into an intimate venue set up much like a print study room. Participants will be invited to compare and contrast the work of George Cruikshank, a prolific and controversial printmaker of the 19th century with the work of Enrique Chagoya, a 21st century artist who uses similar approaches to address contemporary subjects. Participants will also get the chance to hand color a reproduction of Enrique Chagoya’s print The Head Ache.
