Thomas Sully's Ladies: Real, Imagined and Literary
Learn more about the artistic world of one of America’s most celebrated artists, Thomas Sully. Best known for his paintings of wealthy and influential women, Sully also produced upwards of 2,000 portraits in his lifetime. His subjects included most of the prominent politicians and families in the United States, including several members of the Gratz family of Philadelphia that are in the Rosenbach’s collection.
Hundreds of Sully’s lesser-known works also ventured into literary and imaginative topics. Join lecturer Carol Soltis, Associate Curator at the Center for American Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for a new perspective on the prolific career of Thomas Sully.
Free for members! Included in general admission. RSVP strongly recommended to rsvp [at] rosenbach [dot] org or (215) 732-1600 ext. 123.
