Americana Lincoln Gallery Talk

Lincoln’s Words

Wednesday, June 3, 2009 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Dr. Douglas Wilson, project scholar for 21st-Century Abe will be coming all the way from the Land of Lincoln (aka Illinois) to speak at the Rosenbach. Dr. Wilson will be talking about “Lincoln’s Words”, which is the subject of his recent book Lincoln’s Sword:  The Presidency and the Power of Words. He will make the case that Lincoln’s facility with words, especially the written word, was as important as his ability as a political leader. Not only was he as great a writer as he was a statesman, his great success as a statesman would not have been possible without his ability as a writer. Dr. Wilson is the co-director of the Lincoln Studies Center at Knox College and a two-time winner of the Lincoln prize for Honor’s Voice (1998) and Lincoln’s Sword (2007).
