Part of the Rosenbach's annual celebration of Banned Books Week
Tuesday, September 27, 2011 - 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Join us for a reading that marks Banned Books Week, an annual event celebrating the freedom to read.

We’ll hear people from all walks of life- including actors, literature enthusiasts, and scholars- read banned and censored books in the Rosenbach collections out loud, including Shakespeare, John Donne, and Lewis Carroll. Rosenbach staff will also discuss the sensibilities, politics, or culture that had these books banned in the first place.

Some of our Readers this year are:

Poet, Nathalie Anderson reading a selection of poetry by John Donne

Actors, Karen Getz & Kelly Jennings reading from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night

Director, Karen Saillant reading from Giovanni Boccaccio’s The Decameron

Philosophy Professor, Kathleen Wright reading from The I-Ching

Singer-songwriter (John Wesley Harding) and Author, Wesley Stace reading from Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels

and more…

Free for members! Included in general admission. RSVP to rsvp [at] rosenbach [dot] org or (215) 732-1600 ext. 123.

Also, on September 25, 28, & 30 at 3:00 p.m., the Rosenbach will offer Hands-On Tours featuring banned books in our collections.
