Director of Education

Summary Description:

RML seeks entrepreneurial and energetic director of education to oversee all aspects of public programming for diverse audiences. Reflecting the importance of educational programming in meeting the Rosenbach's mission, this is a senior position on the museum's staff. Responsibilities include development and oversight of school partner projects, artist residencies, inventive adult interpretation, signature family programs such as the annual Dracula Parade and Sendak in Spring Festival, and more, all of which use the museum's collections as their departure point. Qualifications: Masters Degree in related field; at least five years experience in creative program development, gallery teaching, program-related fundraising, and personnel management.  The ideal candidate will have a proven history of collaborating with board and staff members institution-wide, as well as diverse constituents, to develop appropriate programming. Salary based on experience. Health care and retirement benefits included.

Facilities Assistant

Summary Description:

The Rosenbach Museum & Library seeks an organized and responsible Facilities Assistant to join its staff for 17.5 hours per week.  Duties entail assistance and support of the Collections Maintenance Coordinator in all aspects of facilities and collections upkeep, including day-to-day cleaning of galleries, public areas, and staff areas of the museum; preparation for special events; routine maintenance and work with contractors and technicians.  Periodic work includes exhibition installation, building repair, and supply inventory.  The successful candidate will have previous experience in a museum environment and be sensitive to the nature of historic structures and collections. S/he should be familiar with the use of basic hand and power tools and should be able to lift 50 pounds, follow instructions and work independently, and communicate well across a broad spectrum of coworkers and the general public.  Flexibility and the desire to pitch in when needed are helpful skills.

The Rosenbach Museum & Library in Philadelphia has reopened its search for a Director of Development. This is a full-time position on the museum’s senior staff. Salary and benefits are negotiable.

Director of Development

Position Title: Director of Development
Reports To: Executive Director
Department: Advancement
Status: Full-time, exempt

Summary Description:

The Director of Development is the chief development officer of the Rosenbach Museum & Library. Working in close collaboration with the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director, the Advancement Department, and in cooperation with all of the museum’s staff, he or she is responsible for developing and implementing a plan to meet the goals set in the operating budget. Recent major grants from The William Penn Foundation, The Pew Charitable Trusts and others will aid the museum in this effort and help it reach a new plateau in the coming years.
The ideal Director of Development has several years of experience in non-profit development work, preferably in a collecting institution, and is well versed in the fundamentals of appeals, grants, major gifts, marketing, membership, special events, etc. He or she can juggle different projects, but still remain focused on priorities identified in the museum’s strategic plan and ensure that deadlines are met. Strong technical skills are a must, preferably including experience with the Raiser’s Edge 7 database.
The Director of Development can deftly communicate the mission of the museum for diverse audiences, and inspires Board and staff to do the same. Accordingly, the Director of Development also supervises efforts to promote the Rosenbach’s brand identity through its website, press releases, publications, and mailings.
The Director of Development serves as the main staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees. Through clear communication, diplomacy and organization, he or she helps the Board achieve the goals it sets.

Internally, the Director of Development supervises the museum’s Advancement Department, setting goals, timetables, and procedures, motivating staff and evaluating the Department’s performance. The Department is fortunate to have staff members with expertise in areas such as databases and appeals, special events, design and marketing. The Department works in close collaboration with the Executive Director (particularly in the realm of major gift cultivation and solicitation) and the Assistant Director, Operations, and liaises with all departments.
