Wild New Ways: Maurice Sendak’s Animal Kingdom
The Rosenbach Museum and Library, located near Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, will be offering tours of this Maurice Sendak exhibition especially for elementary school students.
The exhibition showcases 30 original illustrations of Sendak’s “wild” life, including his sketch of apes at the Central Park Zoo from the 1950’s and an early draft of Where the Wild Things Are. Students visiting the exhibition will study the way in which Sendak captures the textures of fur, feathers, and scales and discuss the reasons why authors such as Sendak love to tell stories about animals. Tours include a hands-on art making activity.
Tours for Schools: Tours will run from 10 to 11:30 am and will be offered Tuesday through Friday from November 15 to January 6.
Cost: $5 per student (No charge for teachers and chaperones)
