Searching Tips:

The online catalog includes Keyword and Advanced Search options, as well as two browse features: Random Images, which offers a random sample of objects from the collection and Click-and-Search, which allows you to browse by artist, object name, etc. Each of these features is described more fully in the Help section of the catalog itself.

If you are looking for a complete list of all items in a particular medium (e.g. silver or paintings) the simplest method is to use Click-and-Search and look in the Lexicon Sub-category field for the available media options.

If you are looking for a complete list of our Marianne Moore objects and photographs, run an Advanced Search or Click-and-Search with “ Moore” in the Collection field. For information on our Moore manuscript and library holdings, please search Rosy, the Rosenbach’s online library catalog.

Can’t find what you’re looking for?

If you are searching by Catalog Number, the Rosenbach’s current numbers take the form YYYY.#### (four digit date and four digit number, e.g. 1954.0001). Items that are part of a set, such as a teapot, will have an additional three digit suffix (e.g. 1954.0001.001). You must include leading zeros. Older numbers may take the form 119/21 or F 2/3; if searching for these, try variations with and without spaces.

If you are searching for a name (creator, subject), try variant spellings and remember to replace accented characters with the same letter unaccented. You may also use the Click-and-Search feature to browse available options.

If you are searching for items made in a particular place, be sure to search by the noun form rather than the adjective (e.g. “France” rather than “French”) and please note that “ America” is used for items from the U.S.

If you cannot find what you’re looking for in an Advanced Search, try the more general Keyword Search. Sometimes information may be entered in a different field than you expected.
