Extraordinary collections require extraordinary care. Caring for the
relentlessly-aging collections so that today’s students and future
generations may learn from them is the mission of the Rosenbach. The
collections are accessible to the public through exhibitions and our
research program; we want to ensure that these superb materials will
be available tomorrow.
Conservation Program
- Using professional museum and library preservation methods and materials,
the Rosenbach maintains an appropriate environment for our collections.
- Strict conservation methods govern our lighting system—light
levels for works on paper do not exceed 5 foot-candles, and objects
are rarely exposed to daylight.
- A state-of-the-art environmental system maintains constant, year-round
temperature and humidification.
- Sophisticated security and fire detection/suppression systems extend
to all areas of the museum.
- The Rosenbach collections are stored and exhibited using archival-quality
materials.
- Our professional facilities manager follows a scheduled maintenance
program, including daily monitoring of hygrothermographic readings.
- The Rosenbach is a member of professional organizations that provide
conservation programs and technical information for our staff.
- Consultants provide in-depth expertise on special conservation
and preservation issues.
- All staff receive instruction in care and safety measures and appropriate
responses to emergencies.
